With Southampton's oldest walking group ( probably )
87 years old and still going strong - every weekend
The ancient public byways of Hampshire provide present a superb mix of coast and country, and comprise over 3,000 miles of pathways. Some follow old Roman roads, others ancient pilgrim and royal routes. Most are wonderfully preserved and generally well posted. If you want to visit history, and countryside, on paths that meander through hill and dale, hidden valleys, ancient woods, quaint villages, and open downs and heaths, then join us today. And as a bonus, we'll lay on lashings of bluebells in spring, a palette of colours in autumn, and fabulous views all year.
Chosen to be within an hour's drive of Southampton, our rambles are usually 6-8 miles in length. Walking at around 2 miles per hour, we keep a steady but gentle pace, stopping to look at anything of interest or just to admire the view. We generally carry our own refreshments, with a coffee break and picnic lunch.
The Southampton HF group was founded in 1931, and we've been walking, every weekend, for 87
years. That's over 4,000 successful walks, and 100's of walking holidays, plus many delightful social afternoons. We are a very friendly supportive group – why not join us today?
